Ceremony 332

Ceremony 332

Ceremony 332 is a performance project that works to expand existing mourning and memorial practices of and for transgender people. The ongoing project is a series of small performances in which I create a specific ceremony to honor the life of each trans person who dies by transphobic violence. Each ceremony is based on in-depth, community engaged research regarding aspects of joy, pleasure, and affirmation within each individual’s life. In doing so, the project works to produce more capacious commemorations of trans people and moves narratives of trans death away from sensationalism and victimhood and closer to more lush and nuanced celebrations of trans life. Ceremony 332 uses performance as a labor of care and responsibility to invite  audiences to consider how we are all implicated in the production of transphobic violence and  how we remember and celebrate, or not, trans lives.
